Jebenhausen's synagogue was built in 1804,
as a commemorative inscription
told.
The adjacent cottage to the left was the "Hekdesh",
the alms house where poor itinerant Jews were fed and given a place to
sleep. Poverty was a grave problem, and in the early years such "guests"
were very numerous.
The cottage right behind the synagogue made a very
modest residence for the Rabbi. In 1839 a more suitable office building
was erected across the street.
