Miriam Loebstein
née Einstein
19 May 1796 - 12 March 1845
At the age of 16 Miriam was married
to Jacob Loebstein, a cattle dealer. She was fortunate enough to live a
life in modest prosperity and without the great tragedy that befell so
many other women: The loss of their children at an early age. She even
lived to see her eldest grandchildren grow up.
Of her nine children, her daughter
Voegele had married David Loeb Fleischer, a butcher who ran the "Ochsen"
inn. Her three eldest sons had established themselves as cattle dealers
and peddlers. Babette was to marry a well-established merchant.
When Miriam died, her youngest son
was seven years old. Her husband did not remarry. Eventually Miriam's four
youngest children left for America.
Jonathan Regensburger,
who was buried next to her, was Miriam's brother-in-law.
